first and foremost thank you to david bowie
for all the inspiration and amazing music.

when david bowie died there was such a sudden
burst of tribute shows thrown together by so many
of my favourite venues, promoters, and musicians
here in los angeles.
i was asked to perform at three such shows,
and i started practicing songs with some friends.
the experience of putting those sets together and
playing those shows for those bowie fans,
and sharing my very personal love for bowie's work
was a touching way to say goodbye, and i
decided that i wanted to record this tribute album
and release it on bowie's 1 year death-a-versary
as a way of deepening my appreciation
and understanding of a body of work that
continues to enrich and influence my life
and love of music.

thank you jared caldwell for the use of your drum set
thank you to all the amazing musicians who
played on this record and helped me to
complete this daunting task,
thank you cameron tyme edison for all your help, and support.
and thank you lastly to sailor and signify studios for all your help.

Track Name: subterraneans
care line failing star
driving de-sheli,
sheli, sheli, ohm

Track Name: breaking glass
lately, i've been
breaking glass
in your room again
don't look at the carpet,
i drew something awful on it
you're such a wonderful person
but you've got problems oh-oh-oh-oh
lemme touch you
Track Name: always crashing in the same car
every chance, every chance that i take
i take it on the road
those kilometers and the red lights
i was always looking left and right
oh, but i'm
always crashing in the same car
jasmine, i saw you peeping
as i pushed my foot down to the floor
i was going 'round and 'round
the hotel garage
must have been touching close to 94
oh, but I'm
always crashing in the same car
Track Name: the secret life of arabia
the secret life of arabia
secret, secret never seen
secret, secret ever green
i was running at the speed of life
through morning's thoughts and fantasies
then I saw your eyes at the cross fades (secret, secret, never seen)
secret, secret ever green
the secret life of arabia
never here, never seen
secret life, ever green
the secret life of arabia
you must see the movie the sand in my eyes
i walk through a desert song when the heroine dies
Track Name: five years
pushing through the market square
so many mothers sighing
news had just come over
we had five years left to cry in
news guy wept and told us
earth was really dying
cried so much his face was wet
and i knew
he was not lying
i heard telephones
opera house
favourite melodies
i saw boys with toys
electric eyes and t.v.s
my brain hurt like a warehouse
it had no room to spare
i had to cram so many things to store everything in there
and all the fat skinny people
all the tall short people
all the somebody people
and all the nobody people
never thought i'd need so many people
girl my age when off her head
hit some tiny children
if the black hadn't have pulled her off
i think she would have killed them
soldier with a broken arm
fixed his stares to the wheels of a cadilac
cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest
and a queer threw up at the site of that
think i saw you in an ice cream parlour
drinking milk shakes cold and long
smiling and waving and looking so fine
don't think you knew you were in this song
and it was cold
and it rained
so i felt like an actor
and i thought of ma
and i wanted to get back there
your face
your race
the way that you talk
i kiss you
you're beautiful
i want you to walk
we've got five years
stuck on my eyes
five years
what a suprize
we've got five years
my brain hurts a lot
we've got five years
that's all we've got.
Track Name: rock n roll suicide
time takes a cigarette, puts it in your mouth
you pull on your finger, then another finger, then your cigarette
the wall to wall is calling, it lingers, then you forget
ohhh, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide

you're too old to lose it, too young to choose it
and the clock waits so patiently on your song
you walk past a cafe but you don't eat when you've lived too long
oh, no, no, no, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide

chev brakes are snarling as you stumble across the road
but the day breaks instead so you hurry home
don't let the sun blast your shadow
don't let the milk float ride your mind
you're so natural, religiously unkind

oh no love! You're not alone
you're watching yourself but you're too unfair
you got your head all tangled up
but if I could only make you care

oh no love! You're not alone
no matter what or who you've been
no matter when or where you've seen
all the knives seem to lacerate your brain
i've had my share, I'll help you with the pain
you're not alone

just turn on with me and you're not alone
let's turn on with me and you're not alone
gimme your hands 'cause you're wonderful
gimme your hands 'cause you're wonderful
oh gimme your hands
