wilton, and brian wrote the lyrics and harmonies for a children's choir to sing for the finally of the song, and wilton actually entertained the idea of gathering a group of children together to sing it. after frustrating failed attempts to teach the part to two children with the help of their parents, wilton realized he knew three people with extremely childlike voices who had varying degrees of singing experience from novice, to punk yeller, to amateur theatre musical singer. fortunately he was able to convince them to learn the parts and sing them in his studio. the band was elated with the results, and they have never tried to work with children again.
lyrics
i keep thinking someone’s going to burst through that door
and give me an award
i feel like I should be bleeding but I can’t find any holes
or any proof to show
i must really be callous
i didn’t even wince when they showed the photos
attack like the crocodile
from the dark riverbanks
with vacant eyes
and armored skin
they will be drinking
and then they will be underwater with teeth
rolling and rolling with nowhere to go
but down
i keep thinking someone’s going to raise their hand and say they understand
come on and give me just one more shot
all I’m asking for is just one more little try
come on, I promise to impress you this time
walking corpse with me
and you
i move into the heat
and you do too
(you are lost now and you have no home)
crowded rooms stay warm (moving forward and sinking downward)
(never sleeping and never waking)
(always passing and never meeting)
but you need more
